What do you think of their decision to move back to their old neighborhoods in Newark? Would you do the same thing?

  1. I think that their decision to moving back to their old neighborhoods in Newark is bad and good, but more good comes out of it then bad. The bad is that there is still a chance that they might see their old friends again. Those friends may still want them to start trouble again. It may be hard for them to say no because of their old peer pressure and the reputation they had before leaving to go to college. Also, while they are working in the hospitals, their family of friends might end up in the hospital for treatment and they might have a mental breakdown. For example: Sam was working in the hospital one day and his sister was rushed to the hospital because she had AIDS related pneumonia. Sam had questions in his mind to rather rushed to her bedside and tell everyone that she was his sister or maintain professional and watch his sister suffer. He took those thoughts to the back of his head and went to his sister’s need. Another day, one of his old friends was rushed to the hospital because he had a gunshot wound and he died the following day. Sam was thankful for that it wasn’t him that was in hospital bed because it easily could have been him if he didn’t go to college but was sadden that it was one of his old friends.
The good that came from going back to their old neighborhood in Newark was that he was able to help his old family and friends. It was better for him to treat his family and friends rather than a doctor they didn’t know because he wouldn’t judge them and they were happy they were in the hands of someone they knew. They were relieved when he said everything was going to be alright.
Yes, I think I would go back to my old neighborhood because those are the people that help me go through college for whatever reasons and they supported me all the way through. This will be my way of giving back to the community who help me achieved my goal-by using what I learned college that was only possible with the help of my community and practice it in my community. They deserve to have my the skills that I encounter during college anyway don’t you.

  2. I think the decision of the three doctors to move back to Newark was a very noble decision. Not many people would have done it. To me, it shows that they never forgot where they came from. They remembered where their dream originated, and didn't forget it. It proves that they didn't forget the people along the way that encouraged them, and it also shows that they are committed to helping others that have big aspirations just like them. However, their could be some negative effects to their move back. I believe one good reason for them not to go back is that the environment they were in before was not a very good one. They could accidentally get caught up in a bad situation.

  3. I agree with Eric and his response. Honestly, a place like where they live is almost like my neighborhood. Gangs, fights, and too afraid to even walk alone at night. It would be the one place that i would never return. However, it was that hardship that inspired you to keep moving, not matter what came your way. Even if I become successful, my neighborhood would be a place that will always the place where i began my journey. I will never forget my home, just like the boys will also never forget.

  5. I agree with Eric. I feel as Eric said that they should never forget where they came from. No matter what you become you should never get caught up and forget who you were. I think that it was a wise decision for the boys to move back because it shows that even though they grew up and overcame all of the temptations they went through and became doctors that they can still be with the people that they grew up with and not act like they are better then any one else

I argee with Mingo, because the guys moving back was very "iffy". They didn't know what could happen. With all those temptations from their old life, it was very hard for them to keep doing what they thought was best for themselves. They kept moving and did what they thought was right !

  7. Even though I didn't originally responded I agree with both Mingo & Eric, because they both gave excellent factors as why the doctors visited their old neighborhood can be positive and negative. I especially agree with Eric with one of his positive factor because their neighborhood did help raise them, it help originate that dream of even becoming successful. I also agree with Mingo with one of his negative factor because their negative friends may still have those negative qualities that held them back from succeeding, and their opinions may really have an effect on the doctors. In conclusion, that being said I would go back to my neighborhood of West Philadelphia to help encourage children and push them to achieve any goals and dreams that they may have.

I agree with Mingo. I believe the decision was good because they can become and example of what you could be instead of making the wrong decision. By going back to Newark, they were models of a success story, given what they have been through. However, I would not move back myself. I believe that if I had a past like the doctors, I could not find myself to go back to a place that leaves me with such bad memories.

I agree with Eric, I think there are bad and good things that comes with their decision. Like Eric said, the bad thing is the environment that they used to live in. However, I think they would have the opportunity to change the environment. They could inspire people and push them to chase their dreams like George, Sam and Rameck did. They could share their aspirations with their neighbors and who knows if they're ambitious enough to stop their bad doings and start doing the right thing like George, Sam, and Rameck did.

I agree with Mingo because it was both bad and good. They may of gotten back to their old ways and old habits. If i had to make that decision I will have moved back to my old neighborhood. I think moving back will inspire other kids to do amazing things. I think they knew they will inspire kids too by doing this

In my opinion, it is a good idea for them to move back to their old neighborhoods in Newark. This decision is good because it can open doors for people still living there. When people see who came out of "the hood", and moreover, came back to the hood, they will be inspired to get their life on track. The option of them moving back shows that they are not proud, and that they remember where they come from.

  15. I agree with Alex because it was a great idea to go back to their roots. They're doing a good thing by setting a good example for children. The one thing that bothers me is what if someone robs them and whatever.

I hope they continue to inspire kids in their hood.

  16. I agree with Alexander because it kinda feels like you have to help your home and obviously this is how the boys felt. They did this to give back and better their community and also to educate many to work for what you want to be.

I think their decision to move back to their own neighborhood is a great decision. By moving back to their old neighborhood, they are able to work where they are from. I think that whenever you have the chance to work where you came from, it helps you durastically. This gives the boys the chance to give back and help their community, espically with the kind of jobs they have. So it is a good decision to help their community by moving back and working where they are from.
I would move back to my home town to work like they did. Working where you came from gives you a sense of this is the best thing you can do . It also helps you benefit from it because it is like you are the home man, you are where they are from and so that can play a factor in how successful you can be. So I would move back to my home town to work.

  19. I think that their decision to moving back to their old neighborhoods in Newark is good. First of all it shows that he acknowledge everyone from his neighborhood. He recognized those who have become his inspiration, those who support and encourage him at hardship. This would mean, that he is compensating to his community. He will become a doctor, who will treat his friends and families. Furthermore, he can inspire those who drop out of school and feel like they belong on the street. He can prevent those, who feel academic is not important and etc.

  20. I agree with Mingo, although it might seem going back to Newark is good. There are several negatives. One of them is because since they live in an area of high crime and poverty, surrounded by drug use and gangs, they could potentially get caught and joins those people. Secondly, since he is a doctor working in a hospital, he might see his friends or families and have mental breakdown. Especially because one of his old friends was rushed to the hospital and died the following day.
