Re-read how George describes graduation at the end of this section. Was he excited or scared? Have you ever thought about your own graduation? Are you excited? Are you scared? Are you nervous?
George was excited about graduating and his father was there as well. He even said it was one of the very few times where he actually saw his dad join the rest of his family. George was also excited about going to college because to his family, it was a "historical event". All three of the boys survived the neighborhood and bad influences of Newark and they were making a better life of themselves.
Yes, I have thought about my own graduation. I'm more scared and nervous than excited because of many reasons. I'm excited because I would have more freedom. I would only be nervous about the graduation ceremony part because I don't want to look weird or trip on stage in front of everyone. (LOL) But, I would be more scared than anything because I wouldn't know where my life is going to head. I know for sure that I'm going to college, but I'm scared about how I am going to survive, meet new people, and how hard my classes might be. I'm scared to leave behind all my friends from high school and stepping out into the real world.
George was having many different emotions on his graduation day. He was happy because his dad was able to come to his graduation along with the rest of his family. He was sad that he was leaving his classmates. Most of all, he was excited that he made it through high school and the streets of his neighborhood and was headed onto college with his friends, Sam and Rameck.
I have not been thinking of my graduation yet because it seems a long ways away. Now that I am thinking about it, I may be sad that I will be leaving my classmates and the staff of Prep charter but on the other hand I will be excited that I have a whole life a head and me. Furthermore, I will be glad that Prep Charter helped me prepare for that life.
George had several different emotions on his graduation day. George was pretty excited when his father showed up at his graduation along with the rest of the family. George was also excited when his friend, Ahi Baraka, made it back to school to graduation with three of them. Not only being excited during the graduation, he was sad about leaving his classmates behind at University High. Mainly, George was excited about the graduation because he had survived throughout the street of Newark and in the high school, and to pursuit his dream along with his two other friends, Sam and Rameck.
Yes, I had thought about my own graduation because I’m excited to go to college, and meet new people and new challenges. But on the other hand, I agreed with Carmen when she said, “I'm scared to leave behind all my friends from high school and stepping out into the real world.” I feel the same way, too. Most of all, I’m glad that Prep Charter and my middle schools had prepared me for a better life.
I agree with Mingo and Daniel. I'm glad that Prep Charter's helping us prepare for high school. We're lucky that we get to take classes at CCP. We're going to get to experience how the classes are going to be when we're actually freshmen in college.
Yes , George was so proud of graduating because he was the first in his family , and he looked at it as a moment in history , or a "Historical Event". George was also proud because his dad was there , to see him walk down the isle as a proud youg student. He was also happy to see his dad join the family , since it had been a long time since he seem them.
Yes , I do think about when i'm goin to graduate from high school and college. I think I'm going to be so releaved, because even though i'm not goin be the first in my family to do so ,but i'm goin to add on to a family legacy. But then there are times when I get cold feet , because I know now , i'm going to be a young adult on my own.
I also agree with Daniel , I'm glad that Prep Charter is helping us get ahead at college at a early start. I'm going to be happy to get to college and excel more at what I wanna do in adult life.
@Carmen I like what you pointed out that their families considered their graduation as a "historic event", and they all survived their chaotic neighborhood. It stood out to me that they're probably the first generation in their family who gets to graduate hs and go to college and I this is a big achievement for them to get this far. This reminds me the many time I've been asked if I was the first generation in my family who will go to college (or graduate from it). I was very proud to say that I faithfully believe that I will be the first to graduate from college in my family. And I think maybe George, Sam and Rameck would be as proud as I am if they were to answer that question.
@Marquetta I agree,I will feel releaved, but also be kind of scared to start off on my own as a young adult. And no I won't be the first in my family either, but I want to Join the Legacy of my family and be successful as an adult so that I can provide for me,my family and even people in general.
George mostly showed a feeling of happiness during his graduation. It was also one of the very few times he saw his father and was very happy to see him. Also, it was a historical event his life and his family's because he was the first to graduate in his family. But George knew his work was not done after his graduation.
I am not really worried about graduation as of right now. My main objective is to do my best in the current grade. When the time comes, I am sure that I will be relieved happy and sad at the same time.
At the graduation ceremony,George was scared!!He was scared because he and his friends were about to embrace and begin a new chapter called college in their lives. But at the same time,George was not scared one bit.He was also excited about his future. He was excited about his next chapters in life and about what the future held for him.For George,Sam,and Rameck, their lives would serverly change, but they would stick together by the power of friendship!!!
Truthfully and personally,I am nervous about what lies ahead in my future.I have no clue about what I want to do with the rest of my life.Because of that,I dont know what's ahead. But I do know I still have time to make up my mind and figure it and map all out from there. But in the meantime, right now at Prep Charter,I will have fun and enjoy my life as a crazy teen in this every crazy, constantly progressing world!!
At the graduation ceremony, I believe that George had a lot of mixed emotions that he really didn't know how to deal with. He was sad, calm, excited and glad all at the same time. He realized then that he didn't have to face his future alone and he had good friends like Sam and Rameck to stand by him.
Honestly, I haven't really thought about graduating Prep yet and to be truthful, sometimes I don't want to. Its crazy to think that i have only two short years before I'm considered an actual adult. I have so many friends and I don't want it to end. On the other hand though, I'm in a way excited to graduate and move on in life :)
I agree with D.I shouldn't be worried about graduation as of right now.I'm young and I have to have my fun in the now.I should be having fun without a care in the world about what's ahead. I don't want to think about graduation because I won't want to leave the school when it is time to do so. I would miss all of the teachers, the next generation of weirdo freshmen, new teachers, all my bestees friends homies, and home fries! But I should start preping for college.that's why I also agree with Marquetta.I'm glad Prep Charter is prepping us for college.I know in my adul life, I will need knowledge to excel at anything I do.We will all need knowledge to suceed and prosper. We must all remember tha tfamous quote: "Knowledge Is Power"!!!!!! Peace
George was very nervous and yet excited, he was also very happy because his dad attended his graduation, he mentioned that it was very rare for his dad to be with the rest of the family like on his graduation day. He was also glad that he get to walk down the isle with his two other good friends, the friends that had helped him get through high school. I believe he was very excited to go to college, and I believe his family was also very proud of him, since he was the first in the family that get to graduate and off to college.
I actually thought about graduating very often, I really can't wait to graduate, not thinking about how stressful college life will be. I can't wait to graduate from high school, go to college and be successful. I feel a little bit scared hearing people's story about how hard college life is, but I'm sure if I don't give up easily I'll make it through just fine.
I agree with Daniel. I think I'd be very nervous when graduation comes. Although I am thrilled at the same time, I just can't bear to leave all of my memories behind. Especially my friends and teachers. I'm scared that the "college world" won't be as easy as high school. I'm scared to enter the adult world, having to pay bills, pay for school, etc. And plus, in college/university, you need to pay extra attention in classes because the professors won't help you like the teachers in Prep Charter does. High school is easy, you can miss some work and still get a high grade by going to tutoring to make it up, but you can't do that when you're in college. It would be very hard.
George had mixed feeling towards graduation, but most were positive and about his future. It was the first time he has seen his father in a while. He was proud that he, Rameck, and Sam and finally graduated and were on their own for the rest of the ride to becoming doctors. Obviously, George was very excited.
I think about my graduation almost everyday. I think about if I can do as George did and become specialized in the medical field. I am vey excited about graduation because there is gonna be a whole list of acceptance letters from colleges. I'm also scared because, I don't wanna lose some friends who are gonna travel for their education.
As everyone else did, I also agree with Daniel. I am very grateful that Prep Charter is preparing us for college and our life afterwards. The wonderful teachers of Prep Charter warn us everyday that college isn't a sail to a resort. If we don't try to succeed then, nothing is gonna be done. No one writes our path but us. We decide our future. Whether it be a drug dealer or a pharmacist.
I think George was both excited and scared. Excited because he got to see his dad, who he didnt see often. He also got to watch all other students around him have a good time for once, instead of hearing how they encountered bad experiences throughout their lives, which probably made him happy. I also think he was excited because he was basically headed to a new beginning, hes now wiser then he was as a child. Despite being excited I think George was scared as well because he didnt know where he was headed, from the looks of it he seems like he was headed down the right road but the right road couldve leaded to rough tasks to overcome.
I'm definitely going to be nervous during graduation. I don't like feeling pressured or like I'm being put on the spot. Even though it's going to be for a good cause it still makes me nervous. I'll be sad as well because I'll never get back all the good times i had at Prep Charter, it'll all be just a memory:( But then again I'm going to be excited because I'm finally going to experience new things and meet new people.
I also agree with Daniel. Prep Charter does a good job at giving us a feel of what it's really going to be like out there. They also encourage us to make good decisions. Kids who don't have this advantage at their school might find it harder to try to overcome their goals. Support always helps!
George was not really excited nor disappointed about graduating, he was more sad because he was leaving his classmate but he had a calm way of approaching the greatest challenge of his life. It was a remarkable event or more historic to his family because college really wasn't an option to them, and for him to complete high school and survive the negativity of Newark. Yes I think about my graduation numerous times, especially in class just that satisfaction you get from making another step in your life and education, while pleasing others who wanted you to succeed. As I thought about it I'm not scared or nervous, I'm excited to see what the world has to offer me, but I may be a little sad because of the friends I had made thinking about how we would be going in different directions.
George had mixed feelings about graduation. He was excited to start a new journey. However, he was also upset about leaving his classmates. He was also a little nervous about his future path. From elementary school you went to junior high from there you went to high school. Now he basically had to decide his path on his own.

I agree with Hannah. I think George was both excited and scared. He was excited to be leaving High school and moving on to college and moving towards his future life with the support of his dad who he seen rarely and his family support. He was scared also because really who knows what is going to happen once you leave High school and for him he didn't know what would happen to him after High school.
